The Not-Yet-Divorced and Confused Bride Has A Big Name Change Problem!

March 9th 2011 - Not -Yet- Divorced, Sylvia Is Not Legally Qualified For A New Marriage & Her Current Legal Last Name Is Up- In- The – Air!

At a recent bridal show, Sylvia took Dr. Linda of The Name Change Kit For Brides software aside - Sylvia was embarrassed and concerned about her future. Sylvia’s life was a mess, still recovering from a traumatic marriage relationship, not-yet-divorced, she was actually engaged to be married to another man!
This second marriage was coming up soon, and she was still legally married to her first husband!

Sylvia is not alone, there are other American women between marriages, devastated emotionally and caught in between 3 or 4 last names! Not -to-mention several different marital status recognitions. Included in this list of “horrors” is The Maiden Name Change nightmare left undone!

What Can Sylvia Do To Rectify Her Precarious Marital Status Debacle? It Won’t Go Away Without Expert Help!

Firstly, the obvious, Sylvia needed to immediately legally divorce – bigamy is against the law! With no children from this first marriage, and no real assets, the “Dissolution of Marriage” would be simpler. However, with her current legal last name that of her several maiden names, a few problems could arise – For example, government agencies and others might require additional proof of a previous marriage and subsequent divorce - This proof, before reverting Sylvia's personal identity to her single status on important documents. Or, some entities might not be interested in her previous marriage, or in the fact that she did not notify them of her “Change of Marital Status”. Sylvia may be looking at a bit of “trial and error”, at the mercy of each entities representative. In any event, the divorce should be obtained, or she will not be able to marry in the near future. Sylvia’s time-line was so tight that it may be impossible to accomplish all of what was needed to start a “clean slate” before her next marriage!

What About Sylvia’s Bride Maiden Name Change – What Potential Mistakes Did She Make To Get Her To This Point? Just A Few Name Change Helper Observations!

Firstly, Sylvia should have been more concerned about the importance of “Maiden Name Change”, and “Change Of Marital Status Notification”. Also diligent in the reporting of her marital status change. Legal marital status change notification is a big part of the name change process. At the very least, Sylvia, immediately after her first marriage, could have notified the government and others of her new marital status, even if she was keeping her legal last maiden name! Our marriage name change software would have assisted with this process.

Secondly, Sylvia, wanting a divorce, should have filed for the same, prior to becoming engaged and planning another wedding, which was just around the corner. The extra time between “Dissolution of Marriage”, and a distant pending wedding plan, would have allowed her to clear up the confusion in the minds of the government agencies and others.

Thirdly, there is more, we shall write on this another time.

What Happens To Sylvia’s Personal Identity Under These Less Than Ideal Circumstances?

Sylvia is pursuing the divorce, it may or may not be in time for the planned marriage ceremony – invitations are about to go out! Her impending wedding day will most probably be canceled! Likewise, she is considering “how” to clear up the mess regarding her current marital status with government agencies and others. However, this may be best put on the “back-burner”, until after her new marriage is recorded. From there, additional paperwork and proofs may be required by the government and others as to her last name and change of marital status. From certified copies of “Divorce Decree” to “ Certified Copies of The Newest Marriage License, Sylvia has her work cut out for her. Dr. Linda of The Name Change Kit For Brides software was happy to give Sylvia important information regarding some of her options to rectify a variety of personal identity concerns. In the future, one thing is hopefully for certain, Sylvia will be more informed. But, there is still her name change and change of marital status clean up to be tended to.
